Purpose: To establish a funding process that increases the capacity of nonprofits in the community that support need-based community building efforts for residents of the Impact Zone of New Hanover County. The Impact Zone encompasses the neighborhoods around seven schools: International School at Gregory, Snipes Academy of Art and Design, Forest Hills Global Elementary, Rachel Freeman School of Engineering, D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy, Williston Middle School, and New Hanover High School. In alignment with The Endowment's objectives under the Community Safety pillar, below are the eligible program service areas:
Target Category: Employability and Jobs (Ages 16-24)
Areas of emphasis include:
• Basic employment skills, employment navigation, and job counseling
• Targeted skill building/certifications to match area’s available jobs
• Internships, exposure to career pathways, and workforce mentorship
Target Category: Financial Stability
Areas of emphasis include:
• Rental, utility, and transportation assistance
• Homeownership pathway and repair assistance
• Supportive services and case management
• Rental, credit, and budget counseling
Funding decisions based upon a program's ability to:
- Address barriers, program accessibility, and equity.
- Focus on vulnerable and under-resourced populations living within the Impact Zone.
- Balance intervention (meeting immediate needs) and prevention strategies (long-term outcomes).
- Utilize best practices and/or Standardized Program Evaluation Protocols (SPEP).
